Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get started with Bipolar?
After downloading the app, you can either sign in with Google or continue anonymously. Once you're in, tap the main card to log your first mood entry. You can track your mood (0-10 scale), sleep hours, medications, symptoms, and add personal notes.
Is my data private and secure?
Absolutely. All your data is stored locally on your device. If you enable iCloud sync, it's stored in your personal iCloud account. We never see, collect, or have access to your data. No analytics, no tracking, no third parties. Your mental health data belongs to you alone.
How do I set up medication reminders?
Go to Settings → Notifications and enable daily reminders. You can customize the time and frequency of notifications. The app will send you gentle reminders to log your mood and mark your medications as taken.
Can I export my mood data?
Yes! Go to Settings → Export Data to download your mood history in CSV format. This is useful for sharing with your healthcare provider or keeping a backup of your records.
What if I forget to log an entry?
No problem! Tap on "Previous Entries" on the home screen and select any past date to add or edit an entry. You can also use the bulk logging feature in Settings to quickly fill in multiple days at once.
How do I sync my data across devices?
Make sure you're signed in to iCloud on all your devices with the same Apple ID. The app automatically syncs your data through iCloud, so your mood entries will appear on your iPhone, iPad, and other Apple devices.
Can I customize the symptoms list?
Yes! When logging a mood entry, tap "Manage Symptoms" to add custom symptoms, remove ones that don't apply to you, or adjust symptom levels. Your customizations are saved for future entries.
What do the mood levels mean?
The 0-10 mood scale ranges from severe depression (0-1) to severe mania/hypomania (9-10). Levels 4-6 represent a balanced or neutral mood. The scale is personalized to your experience, so use what feels right for you. The app provides suggested symptoms for each range to help guide your tracking.
How do I delete my data?
Go to Settings → Clear All Data to permanently delete all your mood entries from your device. If you use iCloud sync, you may also need to delete the data from your iCloud storage. Individual entries can be deleted by swiping left on them in the Previous Entries view.
Is this app a replacement for professional treatment?
No. Bipolar is a personal tracking tool to help you monitor and understand your mood patterns. It is not a medical device and should not replace professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult with your healthcare provider about managing bipolar disorder.
What devices are supported?
Bipolar is available for iPhone and iPad running iOS 15.0 or later. The app is optimized for all screen sizes and supports both portrait and landscape orientations on iPad.
How much does the app cost?
Bipolar is free to download and use. There are no in-app purchases, subscriptions, or ads. We believe mental health tools should be accessible to everyone.

Troubleshooting

App not syncing? Make sure you're signed in to iCloud and have iCloud Drive enabled in Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud. Check that you have a stable internet connection.

Notifications not working? Go to iPhone Settings → Notifications → Bipolar and ensure notifications are enabled. Also check that Do Not Disturb is not blocking app notifications.

Data missing after update? Your data is safe! Try force-quitting the app and reopening it. If using iCloud, ensure you're signed in with the correct Apple ID.

App crashing or freezing? Try restarting your device. If the problem persists, please contact us at [email protected] with details about when the crash occurs.
